More NEW FREE Plugins That Shouldn’t Be Free

This week’s plugin roundup has a bit of everything,a huge free synth, a classic glitch effect that is now free, acoustic guitar, fragile violins, weird spatial effects, sound-design tools and a few deals worth checking out.

As usual, I’ve gone through the latest plugins so you don’t have to spend your entire evening downloading random stuff and wondering why your plugin folder is now heavier than your actual music projects.

1. Altitude by nakst

Altitude is a seriously deep hybrid synth workstation that combines subtractive synthesis, sampling and FM synthesis in one instrument.

You get oscillators, sample layers, filters, effects, sequencers, modulation options and hundreds of built-in patches. Basically, this is not one of those tiny “free synth with three sounds” situations — it looks like a proper full instrument.

2. Glitch 2 by Illformed

Glitch 2 is a classic multi-effect plugin for chopping, slicing, mangling and destroying sounds in a good way.

It has sequenced effects, scene triggering, randomisation and loads of creative ways to turn normal loops into something much more interesting. This is the kind of plugin that can instantly make boring drums sound like they’ve been through a small electrical accident.

3. Ample Guitar M Lite II by Ample Sound

Ample Guitar M Lite II is one of the better-known free acoustic guitar plugins, and it is still a solid one to have in your plugin folder.

It is useful for quick acoustic guitar ideas, simple chord layers, pop melodies, intros and anything where you need a guitar sound without actually recording a guitar.

4. FM8 by Native Instruments

FM8 is a classic FM synth from Native Instruments, known for bright digital sounds, basses, bells, keys, pads and weird metallic textures.

This one is more of a deal than a freebie, but if you’ve ever wanted that old-school digital FM sound without going too deep into painful menu diving, FM8 is still worth a look.

5. Plugin Boutique Summer Bundle

Plugin Boutique also has a Summer Bundle deal with a collection of instruments and effects included together.

This is one of those bundles that could be useful if you want to build up your plugin collection quickly without buying loads of individual tools separately.

6. LØ – Fragile Violins Free

Fragile Violins Free is an intimate violin sampler built around softer, more vulnerable violin textures.

Instead of the huge polished Hollywood string sound, this is more about bow noise, soft attacks, human imperfections and long evolving performances. Perfect for emotional intros, ambient music, cinematic textures and anything that needs strings with a bit of personality.

7. Psypan by Auburn Sounds

Psypan is a binaural panner designed to make sounds feel wider and more three-dimensional, especially on headphones.

This is a weird but useful one if you want to move sounds outside the normal left/right stereo field and make certain elements feel like they are sitting around your head rather than just inside the speakers.

8. Aura Lite by FRCTL Audio

Aura Lite is a free version of FRCTL Audio’s Aura plugin, aimed at adding movement, space and creative texture to your sounds.

It is the kind of plugin I’d throw on pads, vocals, synths or atmospheres when I want something to feel less static and a bit more alive.
