These NEW FREE VSTs Shouldn’t Be Free

This week’s free plugin roundup is a bit ridiculous. We have vintage strings, a free Jupiter-style synth, vocal tuning, a proper crowd-clap generator, drums made from literally any sound, and three free effects from Sixth Sample.

Basically, your plugin folder is about to become even more of a problem.

1. The “W” Vintage String Synth

A characterful sampled vintage string synth from The Crow Hill Company, based on an old Wersi instrument. Think unstable tuning, bright string tones and eerie early-film-score energy. Great for vintage electronic music, atmospheric intros and anything that needs to sound slightly haunted in a good way.

2. HALO-2 Lite

A free-lite version of DHP Plugins’ HALO-2 synth, packed with basses, reeses, pads, leads, arps and FX. It has sample layers, modulation, distortion and enough sound-design options to get properly stuck into without spending anything.

3. Cramit

A free three-band compressor and distortion plugin from Sixth Sample. It is basically built for adding density, excitement and controlled aggression to drums, basses, synths and full mixes without needing a complicated chain of plugins.

4. Deelay

Much more than a basic delay. Deelay gives you multiple delay modes, diffusion for reverb-like spaces, distortion, modulation and loads of presets. A very good all-round creative effect when you want echoes that get a bit weird.

5. Spoton

A free automatic vocal-tuning plugin with a clean layout, selectable notes and simple speed/amount controls. Great for quick vocal tuning when you need something straightforward rather than a plugin that feels like you are filing a tax return.

6. Instant

A free drum plugin that opens with a pattern already playing. You can browse sounds, load your own samples, add step automation and drag the finished loop directly into your DAW. Perfect for getting an idea moving before you talk yourself out of it.

7. ANINA

A free spectral resonance tool for taming harsh frequencies, isolating resonances and creating space between sounds. It can also use sidechain input, making it useful for helping vocals cut through busy chords or pads without brutally EQing everything to death.

8. BattleFX

A free creative multi-effect from Unfiltered Audio, built around the delay, reverb, EQ and maximiser sections from Battalion. It is especially good for making rhythmic, ducked and distorted FX chains that feel more alive than a standard send effect.

9. EIGHTYEIGHT

A free beta synth inspired by the Roland Jupiter-8. It models vintage voice behaviour such as drift, detuning and wobble, then adds its own chorus, reverb, delay and drive. Properly nice for analogue-style pads, basses, leads and retro electronic stuff.

10. The Clap

A free crowd-clap generator that creates claps from scratch rather than using samples. You can go from tight machine-style claps to a full room of messy human applause, with controls for crowd size, randomness, room and stereo width.

11. VRAC

One of the weirdest and most creative free drum tools in the list. Drop in any sound, then morph it toward kick, snare, clap and hi-hat models to create your own playable drum kit. Great for turning random recordings into something actually usable.
