Wait, These Plugins Are Free?!

This week’s plugin roundup has some proper interesting finds — cinematic pianos, textural sax, aggressive drums, strange physical modelling, time-stretch drones, free EQ tools and a few deals worth checking out.

As usual, I’ve gone through the latest plugins so you don’t have to spend your entire evening downloading random stuff and wondering why your plugin folder now needs therapy.

1. Harmonic Piano by The Crow Hill Company

Harmonic Piano is a beautiful, delicate piano instrument built from bell-like harmonic tones created by touching the strings while playing the keys.

It has that soft, magical, cinematic sound that works perfectly for emotional melodies, ambient ideas, intros, film-score moments and anything that needs a bit of sparkle without sounding like a normal piano.

2. Nullify by Boomer Hotel

Nullify is a really clever tool that lets you hear what your master might sound like after streaming platforms compress and encode it.

You can compare the original, the codec version and the difference signal, which is basically the stuff that gets changed or removed by the streaming process. Proper nerdy, but actually useful.

3. Blueprint: Textural Sax by Fracture Sounds

Textural Sax is a free Kontakt Player instrument based on solo tenor saxophone textures. It gives you expressive, atmospheric woodwind sounds that are great for cinematic music, ambient textures and dark melodic layers.

It also includes lo-fi, delay and reverb controls, so you can push it further into sound-design territory instead of just using it as a straight sax instrument.

4. Liquid Death Snare by Purafied

Liquid Death Snare is a free snare instrument from Purafied, built around a very aggressive snare sound recorded with producer Sam Pura.

This one is for anyone who wants drums that hit extremely hard without spending half an hour layering snares and questioning their life choices.

5. Roots by Westwood Instruments

Westwood Instruments’ Roots series is a collection of free virtual instruments with a simple interface and loads of character.

For this video I’m checking out one of the newer Roots instruments, and it has that moody, textured, slightly experimental sound that works really well for atmospheric productions.

6. PartialString by Different Instruments

PartialString is a free physically modelled string synthesiser, which means it is not just playing back samples — it is generating the sound using a model of a string.

It is definitely one of the more unusual plugins in this roundup, but that is exactly why it is interesting. It can go from plucked string sounds into softer, pad-like and slightly unrealistic textures.

7. LOOM by Remo De Vico

LOOM is an extreme time-stretch instrument designed for making textures, pads and drones from audio.

It can stretch a short sound into something much longer without changing the pitch, which makes it really useful for ambient music, sound design, intros and weird cinematic atmospheres.

8. EQ Pro by Jeesonic

EQ Pro is a free 24-band dynamic EQ with Mid/Side and Left/Right options per band, plus a real-time analyser.

This is the sensible one in the roundup. Not the flashiest plugin, but genuinely useful if you want a proper free EQ for mixing, cleaning things up and controlling problem frequencies.

10. Bloom Synth Analogue Lite by Excite Audio

Bloom Synth Analogue Lite is a vintage-inspired synth instrument built from chords, leads, basses, arps and phrases sampled from classic hardware synths.
